The red carpet is always a great place to experience the energy of the entertainment and fashion industries, and the 2nd Annual South Africa Fashion Awards at the Sky Hotel in Sandton brought all this together in style. The evening kicked off in the foyer of the Sky Hotel, which had been transformed into the red-carpet space. It was the perfect setting to capture the arrivals, fashion moments and excitement as guests, nominees, models, brand representatives, and industry personalities made their way through.
As always, one of my favourite parts of covering these events is not only the opportunity to interview some of the biggest names in the room, but also the media bonding and networking that happens behind the scenes. Every red carpet creates an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new colleagues and build new friendships within South Africa’s media and entertainment industry.
During the red carpet, we had the opportunity to interview 24 personalities, models, brand representatives, and nominees, giving us the chance to hear their thoughts on the awards, fashion, their careers and what brought them to this celebration of the South African fashion industry. Among the interviews were Kim Jayde, event co-host Tyrone Willard, Nonku Williams, Kavim Ragbir from Signature Cosmetics, Abi Downs, and Barbs Sixtus from Veldskoen Shoes, among many others. Each conversation brought something different to the red carpet, and it was fantastic to get a glimpse into the personalities and stories behind the people helping shape and influence the fashion landscape.
Once the red carpet wrapped, we headed up to the second floor for a quick break and some much-needed networking. These moments between interviews are often just as valuable as the interviews themselves — a chance to catch up with fellow media, exchange stories from the evening and meet new people in the industry. Then it was time to head up to the sixth floor, where the media gathered outside the room hosting the awards ceremony. From there, we were able to celebrate alongside the winners as the evening unfolded and the achievements of the South African fashion community were recognised. For me, events like this are about much more than simply walking a red carpet. They are about people, conversations, relationships and celebrating an industry filled with creativity and talent. Being able to play a small part in documenting these moments through Celeb Savant is something I genuinely enjoy.
A huge shout-out to Kabelo Ndonyane and the entire team behind the 2nd Annual South Africa Fashion Awards for putting together an outstanding event and creating a platform that celebrates the incredible talent within South Africa’s fashion industry. Another red carpet covered, another 24 interviews completed, plenty of new connections made — and, of course, plenty of fabulous fashion along the way!
Until the next red carpet… keep celebrating South African talent, creativity, and style.
